MakatiMed's 3 Tesla MRI receives DOH accreditation
Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed) recently received accreditations from the Department of Health (DOH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its 3Tesla MRI.
MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging, a diagnostic imaging tool that produces detailed images of the body’s internal organs and tissues, as well as three-dimensional images which can be viewed from different angles. The machine is vital in helping medical experts in diagnosing patients and providing more accurate treatment.
MakatiMed’s 3 Tesla MRI machine operates at twice the normal strength of a magnetic field (1.5 Tesla) while generating the highest quality images. The latest technology has numerous benefits for both the patients and the hospital’s healthcare professionals. The 3 Tesla MRI provides a better patient experience due to its efficiency which leads to shorter examination times and lessens the sense of being confined in an enclosed space.
The machine’s higher resolution produces more detailed images which are advantageous when diagnosing pathological conditions involving the brain, spine and musculoskeletal system. This allows Radiologists to identify smaller lesions or anatomical structures not possible in less optimal scanners. Its high imaging quality also lowers the risk of distorted images and the need for repeat scans, while allowing for more advanced imaging procedures with more accurate diagnosis.
“This machine would enable us to do examinations much quicker and make patients more comfortable, since the time scan is shorter compared to the usual 25 to 30 minutes using other equipment,” said Jackson U. Dy, MD, the Chairman of MakatiMed’s Radiology Department during the inauguration of the 3 Tesla MRI on January 12.
Apart from Dr. Uy, other attendees of the inauguration included Atty. Pilar Nenuca P. Almira, President and CEO at MakatiMed; Saturnino P. Javier, MD, Medical Director; Noel L. Rosas, MD, Director of the Professional Services; and Reynaldo J. Lim, Vice President for Service Operations Division.
Atty. Almira, meanwhile, described the new machine as “a very important piece of equipment to Makati Medical Center” as it would help diagnose more patients and assist doctors in providing the best treatment for them.
“Today is a clear demonstration of the hospital’s belief and trust to grow our capability, to completely support our doctors, and to further widen our network with our professional partners,” Atty. Almira expressed. “We are convinced that we ought to give our resources if we really want to be able to support our doctors’ competence, and to be able to help our patients by coming out with the best diagnosis coming from this kind of imaging.”
With the accredited 3 Tesla MRI, MakatiMed continues to provide reliable, quality and compassionate healthcare to Filipinos.
