Police arrest 56 POGO employees in Makati
Authorities arrested 56 Chinese nationals for alleged illegal Philippine offshore gaming operation (POGO) in Makati City on May 5.
Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the arrested Chinese were also violating the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) rules, specifically on physical distancing.
“We would like to reiterate our plea for cooperation to all the people in Metro Manila, including our foreign friends who are staying here to please observe due compliance to all existing laws especially the ECQ protocols,” said Sinas.
He said the raid in a condominium unit in Barangay Olympia in Makati City on Tuesday was based on intelligence report that a group of Chinese was gathering in the area.
Seized during the operation were several laptops and cellular phones which Sinas said were being used for illegal POGO operation.
POGO caters to online gamblers based in China. Online gambling is illegal in China.
Sinas said the arrested suspects were taken to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City and will be slapped with the appropriate criminal charges.
