Makati beats Valenzuela for 12-3 record
The Makati Super Crunch defeated the Valenzuela SPV TOP Market Place, 78-61, on Wednesday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup at the Valenzuela Astrodome.
The home team was ahead 13-12 with 3:54 left in the first quarter when John Rey Villanueva hit a three-pointer, Joseph Sedurifa sank a layup and a pair of free throws, and Jeckster Apinan scored on a jumper. Cedrick Abalza also hit a jump shot before Mel Mabigat cut the silence for Valenzuela with a layup.
Simon Atkins, however, beat the end of the quarter buzzer with a three-pointer to give Makari a 26-15 lead heading into the second quarter. The Super Crunch kept pounding in from there, leading 44-35 at the half and 60-48 heading into the final frame, where they blew the game wide open.
Ablaza top-scored for the Super Crunch with 17 points, Apinan added 12 markers, and Juneric Baloria 11.
Ford Ruaya led the home team with 13 points while Paolo Hubalde added 11.
With the win, Makati improved to a 12-3 win-loss record while pulling Valenzuela to their 11th defeat in 17 games. The Super Crunch will go to battle against the Pasig Sta. Lucia Realtors on October 8 while the SPV TOP Marketplace-backed squad will be back in action on the same day opposite the Muntinlupa Cagers.
