Mayor Abby steps up assistance to Marikina

On the orders of Mayor Abby Binay, the city government of Makati has deployed additional modern rescue equipment to Marikina City to help out with the needs of victims of Typhoon Ulysses.

In addition to the mobile kitchen and water tanker delivered to Marikina City Hall last Monday, the city has also sent another tanker, a penetrator fire truck, pick-up truck RV-13, and mobile water filtration system on Tuesday.

Last November 12, the mayor also mobilized a rescue team composed of nine personnel with two rescue boats, a search and rescue vehicle, and an ambulance to Barangay San Roque to assist in the evacuation of Marikeños who were trapped in their homes due to rising floodwaters.

“We understand that our beleaguered neighbor needs all the help it can get to cope with this new crisis. We hope that in our own small way, we can ease the day-to-day lives of the typhoon victims while they are in temporary shelters,” Mayor Abby said.

The mayor said the mobile kitchen is ideal for mass food production as it allows for the preparation of at least 800 meals per operation. With its weather protection features and built-in chimney, it also ensures food safety and quality, she added.

Mayor Abby said the mobile water filtration system, which is capable of turning ordinary water into safe, clean and potable drinking water, will help ensure adequate supply of drinking water for evacuees and other residents, including children and the elderly.

The water tankers will also be useful in the distribution of water to areas where water supply has been cut in the aftermath of the typhoon.
