Makati mayor attends Liveable Cities forum
Mayor Abby Binay shared Makati City's successful initiatives in becoming a smart and intelligent city during the Liveable Cities Philippines Forum held at Globe Tower last February 22,2023. The forum focused on showcasing best practices in creating sustainable and livable cities in the Philippines.
Mayor Binay emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in making the city's projects sustainable and well-funded in the long run. She highlighted the city's innovative projects, such as the Makatizen Card, a unified citizen ID that serves as a transactional card for public services and benefits, and the Makatizen App, a mobile application that provides residents access to city services, news, and events.
The mayor also shared the city's plan to transform Makati into a digital city, with initiatives such as the implementation of a city-wide fiber optic network and the establishment of a data center to support smart city technologies. She emphasized the importance of data analytics in decision-making and how it helps improve the delivery of public services.
Furthermore, Mayor Binay discussed the city's efforts to promote sustainable transportation, such as the establishment of bike lanes and the introduction of e-jeepneys, which have significantly reduced the city's carbon footprint. She also shared how the city has implemented an intelligent traffic management system to ease traffic congestion.
The Liveable Cities Philippines Forum provided an opportunity for Makati City to showcase its efforts in becoming a smart and sustainable city. With public-private partnerships and innovative projects, the city has shown that it is possible to create a better quality of life for its residents while ensuring a sustainable future.
