Makati lifts number coding scheme

The number coding scheme in Makati City was lifted by the local government during the period of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

This was announced by Makati City spokesman lawyer Michael “Don” Camiña on Monday (May 3) .

He said the local government of Makati decided to temporarily halt the implementation of the number coding scheme because vehicles are fewer than usual in the city.

“Nakita po natin na kapag MECQ, konti lang po ang mga kotse sa Makati kaya we lift[ed] coding implementation (We noticed that while under MECQ, there are only a few cars in Makati so we lifted the number coding scheme),” Camiña said.

“Kahit during quarantine implementation, importante pa rin sa City na masiguradong maayos ang traffic [ng mga sasakyan] that’s why we adjust accordingly (Even during the quarantine implementation, it is still important for the city government to ensure that the traffic of vehicles is orderly that’s why we adjust accordingly),” he added.

Makati City authorities urged residents to still stay at home to avoid contracting COVID-19.

On April 28, Pres. Duterte extended the implementation of MECQ in the greater Manila area, also called NCR-Plus, until May 14 to stop the spread of the disease.
